How to Play 5 Card Stud Poker

Poker is a game of chance but it also requires a great deal of skill. There are many ways to improve your skills, including studying the game with experienced players and watching other people play. However, you should not rely too heavily on tactics and systems as the best way to learn poker is to develop your instincts and learn from the mistakes of others.

Each round begins when the player to your left makes a bet of one or more chips. The players in turn can choose to call that bet, raise it or fold their cards. You should always raise if you have a strong hand!

Once the first betting round is over three cards are dealt face up on the table which everyone can use, these are called the flop. A third betting round then takes place.

After the third betting round is over a fourth community card is revealed, this is called the river. The last round of betting now takes place and it is time for the showdown – who has the best 5 card poker hand?
